Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued directives to stabilize commodity prices, uphold law and order, and ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply during the holy month of Ramadan. This announcement was made during the first cabinet meeting of the newly established BNP-led government, held at the Secretariat in the afternoon.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Information and Broadcasting Adviser, Zahir Uddin Swapan, briefed reporters following the meeting. He stated that the cabinet convened at the Prime Minister’s behest to discuss pressing national issues. As a result of these discussions, the Prime Minister laid out the government’s immediate priorities.

Swapan highlighted the Prime Minister’s particular focus on ensuring uninterrupted power during Tarabih prayers and at iftar time, emphasizing that people should not experience any inconvenience during these crucial moments of Ramadan. Despite the meeting being primarily a courtesy call, Swapan noted that these three concerns emerged as the main priorities.

In response to inquiries about implementation, the minister indicated that the relevant ministers would present their action plans to the Prime Minister in the coming days. Based on further instructions from the Prime Minister, necessary steps will be taken. Swapan also mentioned that the government estimates it will take at least 180 days to adequately address these urgent issues, with a draft plan already in place to inform the nation soon.

Regarding political pledges, particularly media freedom, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the free flow of information and the independence of the media.
