PM Offers Ziarat at Hazrat Shahjalal’s Shrine During First Official Tour

Sylhet: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today offered ziarat at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) after arriving here this morning on his first official tour to attend several programmes. The Prime Minister offered fateha, recited Darood Sharif, and prayed seeking peace for the country and the nation. His wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman accompanied him, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury was also present on the occasion.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, earlier in the day, the Prime Minister, along with his wife, landed at Osmani International Airport at 10:05 am on a domestic flight. Despite the rain, he proceeded to visit the shrine of the Sufi saint Hazrat Shahjalal (R) located in the Dargah Gate area of the city. Thousands of people, ignoring the inclement weather, gathered along the route to welcome the Prime Minister on his way to the shrine. Standing on both sides of the road, they greeted him warmly, to which Tarique Rahman responded by waving to party leaders, activists, and the public.



As per the tour schedule, Tarique Rahman is set to attend a foundation laying ceremony of a project by Sylhet City Corporation aimed at resolving waterlogging in the city. The event will take place at Chandni Ghat, adjacent to Sylhet Circuit House, where he will also address a civic rally. Furthermore, he will inaugurate the re-excavation programme of the Baisha River located in Kashipur Union under Sylhet Sadar Upazila.



Following these engagements, the Prime Minister will offer Zuhr prayers and have lunch at the Circuit House. In the afternoon, he will inaugurate “Notun Kuri Sports 2026” at Sylhet Stadium at 3 pm, a new initiative aimed at discovering sports talent among children and teenagers at the district level, which was part of BNP’s election promises.



Additionally, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend a party meeting at the Shilpakala Academy in Sylhet later today. He will conclude his visit by returning to Dhaka at night. On January 21, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had formally launched his campaign for the 13th National Parliamentary Election from Sylhet, delivering a speech at the Government Alia Madrasa ground.
