Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today exchanged greetings with people from all walks of life, including foreign diplomats and educationists, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The premier engaged in this tradition at the State Guest House Jamuna this morning, where he first greeted foreign diplomats.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman subsequently exchanged Eid greetings with cabinet members, members of parliament, distinguished citizens, academicians, ulema and mashaikh, artists and writers, and senior civil servants and civil society members. This event allowed a cross-section of people to share in the festive spirit.
Earlier, the Prime Minister visited the Jamuna to exchange Eid greetings after attending the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the National Eidgah ground in the city. Following the event, he, along with his family members, proceeded to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to offer ziarat at the graves of his father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr.
During the ziarat, the family recited the fateha and offered prayers (dua) seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of his parents. Tarique Rahman's wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, his daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, along with Arafat Rahman Koko's wife, Syeda Sharmila Rahman, and daughters, Zahia Rahman and Zafia Rahman, were present during the occasion.
Later, in his capacity as Chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman, along with senior party leaders, placed a floral wreath at the graves on behalf of the party. After offering the ziarat, the Prime Minister returned to his Gulshan residence with his family members.
