Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today emphasized that Bangladesh could flourish into a prosperous nation if children are nurtured to become capable and responsible citizens. 'If today's children can build themselves properly for the future, only then will it be possible to build a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh,' he stated during the closing and prize-giving ceremony of 'Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26' at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister addressed children and young athletes, highlighting his government's commitment to guiding the nation in the right direction. However, he insisted that this endeavor would only succeed if the younger generation prepared themselves for the future through education and sports. 'We are working to build the country properly. But we can do this work successfully only when you - those sitting in the gallery today and those who have received awards on the playing field - prepare yourselves for the future,' he remarked.

The Prime Minister urged children to focus on self-development, emphasizing that the future of Bangladesh rests on their shoulders. 'We may have started the work of building Bangladesh, but it is you who will carry that work forward. The stronger you make yourselves, the more beautifully you will be able to build your Bangladesh,' he noted.

Highlighting the potential within the audience, the premier predicted that among the thousands of children present were future successful doctors, engineers, architects, and internationally acclaimed athletes. 'These young children and athletes will one day bring trophies and honour to the nation from the international arena. So, my little friends devote yourselves wholeheartedly to self-development,' he encouraged.

The Prime Minister called upon children to collaborate in protecting the environment, urging them to discourage littering and to actively participate in cleaning initiatives. 'If necessary, pick up the litter and dispose of it in the designated place,' he instructed, while also advocating for tree planting to maintain a cleaner and greener Bangladesh.

Furthermore, Tarique Rahman stressed the importance of compassion towards animals, describing them as valuable assets and integral parts of nature. He appealed to children to care for animals and ensure their well-being.

Addressing infrastructural challenges in educational institutions, the Prime Minister assured that the government is committed to improving learning environments nationwide. He also appealed to journalists and media professionals to prioritize children's achievements in news coverage, stating that these young individuals represent the real future of Bangladesh.

After delivering his speech, the Prime Minister distributed prizes to the national level winners of the 'Notun Kuri Sports 2025-2026' and participated in a photo session with them. The event was presided over by State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque, with Secretary of the Ministry Md Mahbub-Ul-Alam delivering the welcome address.

Tarique Rahman's arrival at the Bangladesh Army Stadium was met with enthusiastic applause from more than 8,000 students. He interacted warmly with the young athletes and encouraged their sports pursuits, enjoying various sporting events and a cultural performance by children.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister was presented with a commemorative crest of Notun Kuri Sports 2025-2026, with several government officials, including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain, in attendance.
