Hathazari: A mobile court has fined a filling station in Hathazari upazila for halting sales of fuel despite having stock. The fine was imposed on the Latif and Brothers Filling Station near Nazirhat Notun Bridge on Saturday night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Hathazari Upazila Shahed Arman reported that the issue of the suspension of fuel sales at the pump was brought to their attention on Saturday afternoon. The upazila administration conducted the mobile court at night to investigate the matter further.
During the drive, it was discovered that the filling station had approximately 6,000 liters of octane in its reservoir, with 4,000 liters having been delivered from the depot on that same Saturday. Arman emphasized that there is no provision for hoarding petroleum at the pump, and as long as there is fuel in stock, it must be sold to consumers.
The court fined the pump Taka 10,000 under Section 20 of the Petroleum Act, 2016, for halting sales despite having sufficient stock. Additionally, the court instructed the owner to continue selling octane until the existing stock is exhausted.
