Kuala Lumpur:Perak The Safe Internet Campaign in Perak is set to be expanded to tackle artificial intelligence (AI)-based scams, with a particular focus on fake voice threats in cyberspace.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi announced that the campaign will include measures to educate the public, especially senior citizens, about the dangers these new scam tactics pose. Currently, a briefing module on AI-driven scams is accessible at National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) across Perak to help the public understand and avoid falling victim to these tactics. Future campaigns will incorporate similar briefings and modules to raise awareness among those most at risk, particularly senior citizens.
Mohd Azlan shared these details with reporters during the Safe Internet Campaign held in conjunction with Comme Fest 2026 at Dewan Dato' Azman Mahalan. On August 8, the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) reported that over 66,000 online fraud cases resulted in a RM2.97 billion loss nationwide last year, with AI platforms being a primary medium for scammers.
In addition, Mohd Azlan mentioned that the Perak Security, Digital Infrastructure and Telecommunications Committee is collaborating with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to organize a special briefing on Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. This briefing, scheduled for September 28 at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, aims to provide updates on the latest prosecutions under the Act since the committee's formation.
The committee, which includes several agencies and telecommunications operators, plans to explain to all invited parties the potential consequences of neglecting these issues. The briefing is expected to attract over 2,000 visitors, featuring participation from 15 exhibiting agencies and 25 local entrepreneur booths. Besides cybersecurity briefings, the event will offer various activities, including a brisk walk, traditional sports, coloring contests, and musical concerts.
