Kuala Lumpur:Perak The Safe Internet Campaign in Perak is set to broaden its scope to tackle artificial intelligence (AI)-based scams, with a particular focus on combating fake voice threats in cyberspace.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the State Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi announced that educational measures on AI-driven scams will be integrated into every campaign. The initiative aims to educate the public, particularly senior citizens, about the dangers posed by these sophisticated scam tactics.

Currently, a briefing module on AI-driven scams is available at National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) across Perak. These modules are designed to help the public understand and avoid falling victim to such scams. Future campaigns will continue to include these briefings to raise awareness among the high-risk groups, especially senior citizens.

Mohd Azlan shared these plans with reporters at the Safe Internet Campaign, held during the Comme Fest 2026 at Dewan Dato' Azman Mahalan.

On August 8, the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) reported over 66,000 online fraud cases last year, resulting in a loss of RM2.97 billion nationwide. AI platforms have been identified as significant tools used by scammers.

Additionally, Mohd Azlan mentioned that the Perak Security, Digital Infrastructure and Telecommunications Committee, in partnership with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will conduct a special briefing on September 28. This session, held at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, will cover Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and provide updates on case prosecutions under the Act.

The committee, involving several agencies and telecommunications operators, will also address the potential consequences of neglecting these issues to all invited parties.

At the Comme Fest 2026, the organizers aim to attract over 2,000 visitors for the briefing session. The event features 15 exhibiting agencies and 25 local entrepreneur booths. Various activities, including a brisk walk, traditional sports, coloring contests, and musical concerts, are also planned.
