Dhaka: BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan today stated that any attempt to create chaos during the upcoming elections will be resisted by the people. “Those who try to create disorder in the elections will not be accepted by the people,” he told journalists after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Nirbachon Bhaban in Agargaon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a three-member BNP delegation, led by Nazrul Islam Khan, met with the CEC. The other members of the delegation were BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabiullah and Election Steering Committee member Gias Uddin Rimon. Nazrul, who is also the chairman of the BNP election steering committee, mentioned that BNP activists would remain active in the field to ensure a proper electoral environment. He emphasized that if anyone attempts to create anarchy in the election, the people will resist them, even if the BNP were to attempt such actions.

Responding to inquiries about the role of the Election Commission (EC), Khan expressed that the party had hoped for a more assertive stance from the commission. “We submitted allegations along with specific video evidence. However, the EC informed us that the complaints have been forwarded to a judicial committee,” he noted. He further added that this response was inadequate and urged the EC to take prompt and effective action.

Discussing alleged conspiracies to undermine the election process, the BNP leader suggested that those opposed to change and certain of their defeat might attempt to disrupt the process. However, he asserted that the people’s desire for a fair election is stronger than any conspiracy. Expressing optimism, Nazrul Islam Khan voiced confidence in the BNP’s belief that the election would be fair and that the party would emerge victorious.
