Thakurgaon: Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday stated that the people of Bangladesh do not want to see Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in power, asserting that public sentiment is firmly against the party.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Fakhrul highlighted that Jamaat-e-Islami opposed the independence of Bangladesh, killed freedom fighters, and dishonoured mothers and sisters. These actions, he claimed, are the reasons why the people of Bangladesh will never bring Jamaat to power.
Fakhrul, who also serves as the BNP Secretary General, made these remarks while addressing a reception following his inspection of the progress on reopening the abandoned Thakurgaon Airport. He emphasized that the BNP is not opposed to reforms and has contributed significantly to the implementation of the ‘July Charter.’
