Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that the citizens of Bangladesh are yearning for a genuine democratic system in the country.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Necessity of Implementing Padma Barrage and Second Padma Bridge’ held at the BRAC Centre in Mohakhali. The event was organized by the ‘National Committee for Implementation of Padma Barrage and Second Padma Bridge.’

The seminar was attended by national political leaders, economists, educationists, and experts. Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, president of the organizing committee and former Member of Parliament for Rajbari-1, chaired the event.

Fakhrul stated that the BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has pledged to construct a second Padma Bridge, asserting that the livelihoods and security of the people in the regions are linked to this project. He assured that the commitment would be fulfilled if they are elected to form the government.

He also highlighted the party’s long-standing discussion on reforms, referencing their Vision-2030 announced in 2016 under Khaleda Zia’s leadership and Tarique Rahman’s 31-point plan presented in 2022.

Fakhrul concluded by noting that the unity witnessed during the July Uprising could address the country’s issues. He stressed that with national unity and aligned thoughts, success could be achieved.
