Dhaka: A pedestrian lost their life after being struck by a bus in the Jatrabari area of the city on Sunday morning. Traffic police detained the driver, who had attempted to flee the scene.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the driver, identified as Md Saiful, 26, was apprehended along with the bus by Jatrabari Traffic Zone police. The fatal accident occurred in the Kutubkhali area at approximately 10:50 am, as reported by DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Aktar Hossain.
The incident unfolded when the bus hit the pedestrian and sped away. On-duty traffic police responded by blocking the road and pursuing the bus. The vehicle was eventually intercepted in the Shanir Akhra area, where the driver was detained.
The pedestrian died at the scene after being crushed under the bus. The body was subsequently transported to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have handed over the driver and the bus to Jatrabari Police Station for further legal procedures.
