Patuakhali: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Patuakhali-3 constituency Professor Muhammad Shah Alam has vowed to work for sustainable development in the areas like education, health, communication, and employment if he is elected in the 13th parliament election. Prof Shah Alam, who has an academic background with an honours degree from Dhaka College and a master's from Dhaka University, and a teaching career spanning 27 years at Galachipa Government College, aims to leverage his educational experience to enhance local development.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in an interview with their Patuakhali district roaming correspondent Enamul Haque Ena, Prof Shah Alam shared his vision and expectations ahead of the national elections. He promises to elevate the education system to an international standard, introduce honours curriculum in government colleges, and initiate double shifts in high schools to tackle unemployment through employment-oriented training. He also plans to upgrade the local health complex and improve infrastructure by integrating Charkajal and Charborhan, along with enhancing roads and communication.
Prof Shah Alam has instructed his party members to adhere strictly to the electoral code of conduct, emphasizing the importance of maintaining discipline during the campaign. He also expressed his support for the July Charter and the referendum, urging voters to support these initiatives, which he believes are pivotal for the electoral process.
Expressing his expectations for the upcoming elections, Prof Shah Alam called on the Election Commission to ensure fair play, acknowledging existing challenges but remaining optimistic about their resolution. He emphasized the significance of the July Uprising in shaping the current political landscape and stressed the responsibility of the commission in honoring the sacrifices made during that period.
Patuakhali-3, comprising Galachipa and Dashmina upazilas, is a significant constituency due to its political sensitivity and coastal location. Sustainable development in education, health, communication, and employment has been a longstanding demand here. The constituency is home to 3,75,871 voters, with a mix of male, female, and third-gender individuals, spread across 124 polling centers.
Prof Shah Alam is contesting against candidates from various political backgrounds, including Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abu Bakar Siddique, independent candidate Hasan Mamun, and Gano Odhikar Parishad's Nurul Haque Nur, making this election a competitive and closely watched event.
