Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan today said patriarchal attitudes in society are obstructing women’s natural creativity and limiting their opportunities to become entrepreneurs. ‘Women are inherently creative and play a unique role in sustaining generational continuity. However, prevailing patriarchal mindsets often hinder their talents and entrepreneurial potential,’ he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister was addressing the ‘World Women Conference 2026’ as the chief guest at a hotel in the capital. The conference was jointly organized by Business America and Arthakantha. Swapan emphasized that motherhood and emotional bonding are deeply connected to every human being, and recognizing women who have established themselves as entrepreneurs is crucial for fostering positive social change.

The minister assured attendees that the feelings and expectations expressed by participating women would be conveyed to the policy-making level of the government. Sharing his political experience, he referred to the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia, highlighting her success in overcoming numerous challenges as a woman leader.

Swapan called upon women to utilize their inherent creative strengths without yielding to social barriers and negative attitudes. He expressed gratitude to the organizers, noting that such initiatives help highlight existing inequalities and encourage and inspire women entrepreneurs. Several successful women entrepreneurs from different sectors were honored at the conference.
