Pabna: The passing out parade of the 4th batch of cadets of Bangladesh Marine Academy (BMA), Pabna-2025, was held at the academy grounds at Nagarbari under Bera Upazila of Pabna. Shipping Ministry's Secretary Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury graced the event as the chief guest, with BMA Commandant of Pabna Captain Md Taufiqul Islam presiding over the ceremony.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ministry's release highlighted that after the parade, the chief guest distributed prizes to the cadets. Dr. Chowdhury emphasized that a marine officer earns foreign exchange equivalent to about 50 unskilled workers. She further mentioned that the government is focusing on making the maritime profession more appealing and is working to modernize the training system.
Dr. Chowdhury noted the increasing demand for skilled marine professionals in the international market, stating that the country's five marine academies play an essential role in meeting this demand. She observed that Bangladeshi mariners significantly contribute to the nation's economic progress by earning foreign exchange while working on ships worldwide.
This year, 65 cadets, comprising 33 from the nautical department and 32 from the marine engineering department, participated in the pre-sea course competition. Senior cadet Captain Sudipto Chakraborty of the nautical department was awarded the 'Commandant's Gold Medal' for his exceptional performance. Cadet Captain Md Yusuf Hossain Rafid from the nautical department and Cadet Captain Zisan Abedin from the marine engineering department were honored with the 'Commandant's Silver Medal'.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Shipping Ministry, Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU), the Department of Shipping, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, military and civilian officials, guardians, and local dignitaries.
