Dhaka:The first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the 13th National Parliament took place at the parliament complex, chaired by Md Abul Khair Bhuiyan, MP. State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque was specially invited to attend the meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee chairman paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and those who lost their lives during the Liberation War, as well as the victims and injured of the July 2024 movement.
A presentation was given on the activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and its subordinate departments. The committee was informed about various initiatives under the government's 180-day programme.
The committee proposed extensive media coverage for the 'Notun Kuri Sports 2026-27 (Season-2).' Recommendations were made to involve unemployed youths in training programmes and to organize regular sports competitions at the upazila level to prevent drug abuse and promote engagement in sports and employment.
In line with the Prime Minister's election manifesto, the committee suggested constructing playgrounds in every union and establishing biogas plants nationwide. Emphasis was placed on the safety of women athletes with a recommended 'zero tolerance' policy against harassment.
Committee members Morshed Milton, Advocate Md Jalal Uddin, Mohammad Abu Sufian, Md Fazle Huda, Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Alfaruk Abdul Latif, Sheikh Monjurul Haque (Rahad), and Md Ataur Rahman were also present at the meeting.
