Parents Gathering Held in Jhenaidah to Prevent Child Marriage

Jhenaidah: A parents’ gathering was held today in Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah district to create awareness among the people to prevent child marriage. The event was organized by Bangladesh Palli Unnayan Board (Bangladesh Rural Development Board, BRDB) on Thursday at 10 am on the premises of Khalishpur Bohumukhi Maddhomik Biddaloy of Maheshpur Upazila here.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Awal attended the gathering as the chief guest. Maheshpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Khadija Akhter and Upazila Rural Development Officer, Bahaul Islam, teachers, guardians, and adolescents, among others, were present at the gathering.



The speakers at the event emphasized the need to expand girls’ education to enable them to become worthy citizens of the country. They highlighted the negative impacts of child marriage and urged all classes of people in the country to come forward to stop early marriages, describing it as a societal curse.



At the meeting, teachers, students, and guardians took oaths against child marriage, pledging their commitment to combat the practice.
