Dhaka: Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof announced Pakistan’s readiness to provide extensive support for the development of Bangladesh’s livestock sector. Speaking at a livestock farmers’ conference held at Harihara government primary school premises in Shailokupa upazila, the High Commissioner emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to assist in livestock variety development, as well as milk and meat processing.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the conference was attended by Livestock and Fisheries Adviser Farida Akhter as the chief guest, with Tariqul Islam Turkey, a firm owner, presiding over the event. The gathering featured speeches from Attorney General Advocate M Asaduzzaman and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Awal, highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation in agricultural advancement.
The Pakistani diplomat noted the similarities between agriculture and livestock husbandry in Bangladesh and Pakistan. He pointed out Pakistan’s advancements in dairy and meat production processing and marketing, suggesting that these could serve as a roadmap for Bangladesh’s development in these sectors. Maroof stressed that Pakistani support is contingent on the interest shown by the Bangladeshi government.
Dr M Jashim Uddin, the project director of LDDP, former dean of the agriculture faculty of the Rajshahi University Professor Dr Aminul Islam, and President of the Teesta River Protection Committee Faridul Islam Farid were also present at the function, further emphasizing the collaborative and inclusive approach to livestock development.
