Lahore:Pakistan has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow over rate during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka in Lahore. Pakistan emerged victorious against Sri Lanka by three wickets on Saturday, securing their first one-day international tri-series title on home soil.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ICC match referee Jeff Crowe determined that Pakistan was one over short after accounting for time allowances. As a result, the team was fined five percent of their match fee. Pakistan's captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, accepted responsibility for the infraction and agreed to the penalty, thus avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
The charge was levied by the on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, along with third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz. Meanwhile, England, having lost three of their four matches, concluded the series in third place in Pakistan.
