Cumilla:A 40-year-old painter's body was discovered beneath a lift in a building in Cumilla city on Monday evening. The deceased, identified as Kiron Mia, was the son of Sundar Ali from the Muradpur area.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Kiron had gone to the building on Monday morning for painting work but did not return home. His family searched for him throughout the day without success.
In the evening, the search led them to the building opposite KTCC near the Cumilla Sadar Upazila Parishad complex, where they also checked the lift. Raju, a lift mechanic from Ratech-Tech Limited, was called to the scene and found Kiron's bloodied body after opening the lift.
Authorities were informed, and the police subsequently recovered the body. It was sent to the Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Local resident Makbul reported that the lift had been operating on a generator before it abruptly stopped, prompting him to call for an investigation into the circumstances of how the lift stopped and how Kiron ended up beneath it.
Building owner Khorshed Alam mentioned that they had searched the premises before finding Kiron under the lift. The police have collected statements from residents and Kiron's family members and are reviewing CCTV footage to understand the circumstances leading to his death.
