Jamalpur: Pahela Baishakh, marking the Bengali New Year 1433, was celebrated with enthusiasm and active participation throughout the district today. The district administration, along with political parties, educational institutions, and various social and cultural organizations, organized a series of programmes that included rallies, cultural events, and sports to commemorate the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration initiated the celebrations by organizing a vibrant and large rally from the Bakultola area of the town at 8 a.m. The rally, spearheaded by local lawmaker Advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun, traversed the main roads of Jamalpur before culminating at the Shilpakala Academy premises. Distinguished figures such as Zila Parishad Chairman Md Sirazul Haque, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali, and Superintendent of Police Mst Farhana Yesmin participated in the rally.
Following the rally, a cultural programme was held at the Shilpakala Academy premises. The event featured performances by artists from Shilpakala Academy, Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha, and the District Shishu Academy, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region and adding to the festive spirit of Pahela Baishakh.
