Pahela Baishakh Celebrated in Port Louis

Port Louis: The Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis hosted a vibrant day-long program today to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, marking the first day of the Bengali calendar. The event was attended by Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Mauritius along with the embassy staff, who came together for the joyous occasion.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the highlight of the celebration was the colorful procession known as Ananda Shobhajatra, led by High Commissioner Dr. Jokey Ahad. Dr. Ahad expressed pride in UNESCO’s recognition of the procession as a significant part of the world’s cultural heritage. He emphasized that the Bengali New Year symbolizes happiness and hope, encouraging all Bangladeshis to carry the spirit of their homeland wherever they are in the world.



The celebration also featured a Baisakhi fair organized by the embassy, where attendees indulged in traditional Bangladeshi delicacies such as pithapuli, jhalmuri, fuchka, singara, samosa, and pantabhat, adding to the festive atmosphere.
