Barguna: Paddy and sunflower seeds were distributed among marginal farmers in Barguna today under an initiative of the BRAC Microfinance Programme to boost agricultural production. The distribution programme took place at the BRAC office in Barguna Sadar at 11:00 am, benefiting a total of 190 farmers. Each of the 110 farmers received one kilogram of paddy seeds, while 80 farmers were provided with one kilogram of sunflower seeds.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was attended by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Sifat Bin Sadiq, who served as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Regional Manager (Claims) Mahmudul Hasan, with BRAC District Co-Regional Manager (Claims) and Coordinator Maruf Parvez also present.

BRAC office sources indicate that marginal farmers from various areas of the district are being identified for support under the BRAC Microfinance Programme. This support is being provided in phases, and so far, paddy seeds have been distributed to 1,000 farmers, while 600 farmers have received sunflower seeds across the district.

During the event, the UNO remarked that such initiatives motivate marginal farmers to envision a better future. He highlighted that the effective use of improved seeds would not only enhance agricultural production but also contribute to improving the financial condition of the farmers.
