Sylhet: At least 50 individuals sustained injuries while slaughtering sacrificial animals across various locations in Sylhet during the Eid-ul-Azha festivities. Among those injured, 20 people were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, with the remaining individuals returning home following primary treatment.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the hospital authorities reported that the injured received medical attention at the hospital’s emergency department between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm on Thursday. Anwar Zaman, the in-charge of the hospital outpost, stated that approximately 50 individuals from different parts of Sylhet suffered injuries during the process of animal slaughtering.
The hospital’s Casualty Unit indicated that most injuries resulted from the careless handling of knives and sharp tools. Additionally, some individuals were injured after being kicked or gored by cattle. Observers pointed out that the main reasons for these accidents were the lack of experience and poor handling skills, as many of the injured were not professional butchers.
