Lakshmipur: Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee today stated that the opposition's long march poses a threat to democracy. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering as the chief guest at the Town Hall auditorium in Lakshmipur town.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anee criticized the opposition's long march slogans, highlighting that while they might have been suitable against Sheikh Hasina and her government, they are not justified against the current government, which has been in power for only six months. He referenced comments made by the Jamaat-e-Islami Amir in the Jatiya Sangsad, emphasizing that issues related to fuel, gas, and electricity are longstanding and require collective resolution, questioning the necessity of another long march.
The minister stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between both ruling and opposition parties to rebuild the country. He urged for the government to be given the opportunity to work effectively, which he believes is essential for the country's reconstruction. Anee also pointed out that the current government is not fascist, nor is it backed by a fascist opposition, as both have emerged through elections.
He called on all parties to remain vigilant to prevent the resurgence of fascism due to the opposition's activities. The event was attended by notable figures including Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, Professor Nani Gopal Ghosh, Prof Md Yousuf, BNP leader Abul Hasem, Jamaat leader Maulana Faruk Hossain Noor Nabi, and Mohammad Abdullah.
