Dhaka:The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has introduced an online system for allocating government housing, aiming to enhance transparency, simplicity, and efficiency in the process.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher inaugurated the new online allocation system at the ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat. He emphasized the government's commitment to good governance and transparency, highlighting that this initiative is a step towards simplifying public services and making them more accessible and citizen-centric.

The initiative was part of a broader strategy to ensure transparency within the Ministry, with the online system designed to make the housing allocation process faster and more user-friendly. State Minister Ahmed Sohel Manzur, Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman, Additional Secretary Md Abdul Matin, and Director of the Housing Directorate Md Zahirul Islam Khan were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

A notification was issued on September 15 inviting online applications, which were accepted from September 16 to September 30. The ministry received 596 applications for 54 vacant housing units. After a thorough review, 342 applications were deemed valid, while 254 were rejected for not meeting eligibility criteria.

Previously managed through a manual process, the housing allocation system has now been automated to improve service delivery. Applicants can now conveniently check the results of their applications online, reducing the time and effort required to access this information. This system enhances transparency, accountability, and access to information in the government housing allocation process.
