Dhaka: The government has announced a significant shift in the application process for dual citizenship certificates, moving entirely to an online system from May 16. This change will eliminate the existing offline provisions, affecting how applications are submitted at Bangladesh embassies, missions abroad, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a notice from the home ministry stated that from May 16, applications for dual citizenship will no longer be accepted in hard copy at the specified locations. The new online system is designed to enhance transparency, ensure accountability, and provide quicker services to applicants.

To apply, individuals must log in with their own Gmail ID at the link scs.ssd.gov.bd. They are required to fill out the prescribed form online, upload the necessary documents, and pay the government fee through e-payment. The entire application process will be conducted online, and applicants will receive their digital certificates via e-mail.

The notification further elaborated that the digital certificate, complete with a QR Code, can be downloaded and stored from the applicant’s Gmail ID. This new process aims to streamline the application procedure and offer a more efficient service to those seeking dual citizenship.
