Meherpur: A court here today sentenced a man to death in a murder case in Gangni upazila of the district in 2022. District and Sessions Judge SM Nasim Reza announced the verdict on Monday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also fined convict Bachchu Mia, 48, son of Abdul Latif of Sholmari village in Sadar upazila, Taka 50,000, said public prosecutor of the court Saidur Razzak. The prosecution detailed that on September 8, 2022, Bachchu killed easy bike driver Jamal Uddin, 54, son of Abul Hossain of Ramkrishnapur Dhala village in Gangni upazila, and fled with his easy bike.
Police from Meherpur Sadar Police Station later recovered the body from a litchi garden in Meherpur Municipality. Following the incident, Alamgir Hossain, the younger brother of the deceased, filed a case with Meherpur Sadar Police Station on September 10, 2022, naming Bachchu Mia as the sole accused.
The judge, after examining 15 witnesses and reviewing the evidence, found the convict guilty and handed down the punishment.
