One Arrested with $51,000 in Meherpur

Meherpur: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested one person with US$51,000 in a raid at the Mujibnagar border in Meherpur. The raid was conducted this afternoon. The arrested person is Masedul Haque (38), a resident of Khamarpara village in Mujibnagar upazila.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lt Col Md. Nazmul Hasan, Commander of Chuadanga-6 (BGB), stated that based on information, a BGB team led by Anandabas BOP AD Md. Haider Ali took position approximately 200 yards inside Bangladesh from the main pillar 99 of Anandabas BOP. In the afternoon, BGB members saw a person coming from the zero line area by bicycle moving suspiciously with a bag of grass and ordered him to stop.



The commander noted that when the man tried to escape, the patrol team chased him and arrested him. Upon searching the grass sacks, $51,000 wrapped in black scotch tape were recovered from five packets. Additionally, a bicycle and a button mobile phone were seized from the arrested person.



The estimated market value of the recovered dollars and other items is Taka 61,98,540. A case has been filed on this issue, and the arrested accused has been handed over to Mujibnagar Police Station.
