Dhaka: Police arrested one person from the city’s Mohammadpur area in the early hours of today on charge of killing one Shahriar during the anti-discrimination student movement. Mohammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, confirmed the arrest, saying they arrested Aminul Islam around 2:45 am.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shahriar joined the anti-discrimination student movement with thousands of students and people at Mohammadpur on July 19 last. The leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate bodies allegedly opened fire at the protestors indiscriminately, in which Shahriar suffered critical bullet wounds and eventually died on the spot, as stated in a case filed with Mohammadpur police station on September 3.
Police said they arrested Aminul as his involvement was found through scrutiny of the video footage of the place of occurrence and its surrounding areas. Aminul is accused in 14 more cases filed with different police stations.
