Panchagarh:The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken firm disciplinary action against two senior public officials following allegations of corruption, financial irregularities, and document forgery.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, former jailor Md. Abdul Fattah of Panchagarh District Jail has been dismissed for allegedly embezzling Taka 1.33 crore from prison food supply funds. Simultaneously, Dr. Dulal Krishna Saha, the chief chemical examiner of the Department of Narcotics Control, has been ordered into compulsory retirement for fraudulent travel allowance claims amounting to Taka 3.15 lakh.
These decisions were made after departmental inquiries and recommendations from the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, in line with the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
The inquiry revealed that Fattah was involved in irregularities with 37 allegedly fraudulent bills, connected to suppliers Baba Mayer Doya, Nur Store, and Shuvo S-Mill. Investigators found that food ration requisitions were inflated despite low inmate numbers, and procurement and payment procedures were bypassed. The irregular transactions amounted to Taka 1,33,20,000, with Taka 80 lakh deposited personally by Fattah at Sonali Bank's Panchagarh branch. Consequently, Departmental Case No. 12/2025 was initiated against him, resulting in his dismissal.
In a separate case, Dr. Saha's compulsory retirement was due to allegedly fraudulent travel allowance claims totaling Taka 3,15,757. The inquiry discovered he used forged documents to claim travel allowances without attending court proceedings, falsified travel itineraries, and forged signatures to bypass necessary approvals. These irregularities spanned from June 2000 to January 2023. This led to Departmental Case No. 14/2025 and his compulsory retirement.
The cases, highlighting significant disciplinary actions, underscore the importance of departmental investigations and the role of the BPSC in addressing corruption among public servants. Both actions were issued by order of the President through the Ministry of Home Affairs' Security Services Division.
