An Officer-in-Charge (OC) and three Ansar members were withdrawn from their respective work stations following a clash between two off-duty OCs and Ansar over parking at an amusement park in Chattogram on December 26.
Those withdrawn are Chattogram Government Railway Police (GRP) OC Md Nazim Uddin, Ansar members—Sohel Rana, Muhin Ahmed and Saidul Rahman. They were posted at Ansar Battalion Range Office in the city’s Foy’s Lake area.
According to police and Ansar, GRP OC Nazim and Bandarban Sadar police station OC Shahidul Islam along with their families went to visit Foy’s Lake on December 26 in the afternoon.

A microbus carrying the touring party was parked a few yards away from the main entrance of the Ansar office. The accused Ansar personnel locked into an altercation with OC Nazim over the matter.
At one stage, they dragged the OC inside the Ansar office compound and allegedly beat him mercilessly, despite Nazim identifying himself as an OC.
On information, a team of police led by concerned Akbar Shah police station OC Waliuddin Akbar rushed to the spot and took two Ansars, Sohel and Muhin, to the police station.
Jasim Uddin, deputy commissioner (DC-west) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police and Engineer Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, superintendent of police (SP) of Chattogram Range Ansar and others from the both battalions held a meeting at the police station over the matter later that night.

Later, the detained Ansar members were released on condition that divisional steps would be taken against them and a general diary was lodged in this connection.
DC Jasim said misunderstanding between the two battalions led to the unexpected incident. The Ansar members were freed through a negotiation on Wednesday.
OC Nazim was attached to the district Police Lines after withdrawing from the GRP, he said.
GRP SP Hasan expressed his reluctance to make any comment on this issue saying that “It is our internal issue which can’t be told to the media”.
