Dhaka: Newly elected Member of Parliament to a reserved women’s seat, Nusrat Tabassum Jyoti, took oath today as a member of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, administered the oath to the newly elected lawmaker.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the oath-taking ceremony was held at the Speaker’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The ceremony was conducted by the Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, as mentioned in a press release.
Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) declared Nusrat Tabassum, joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and nominee of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance, elected unopposed to a reserved women’s seat in the 13th National Parliament.
In accordance with the Third Schedule of Article 148 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, as well as Rule 5 of the Rules of Procedure of Jatiya Sangsad, the Speaker administered the oath to the newly elected member of parliament.
Following the ceremony, the newly elected MP signed the oath register at the office of the Parliament Secretary, as per tradition. Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip of the Opposition, and senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat, among others, were present at the event.
