Dhaka: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today announced that electricity from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is anticipated to be linked to the national grid on a trial basis between June and July. ‘Fuel loading at the plant will commence on April 7, with one unit of the project potentially generating around 1,200 megawatts of electricity at full capacity by December,’ he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister shared these insights while speaking to reporters following a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin at the Planning Commission in the city. He highlighted the pressing need to address the energy crisis, stressing the immediate requirement to advance into the production phase.
The government is aggressively prioritizing the integration of new power supplies into the national grid to guarantee power security, he added. The minister reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to achieving stability through various channels to fulfill the nation’s energy needs.
When discussing diplomatic and economic relations with the United States, the minister maintained a cautious approach, indicating that the government is monitoring developments closely in that domain.
Additionally, the minister commented on the progress of the private sector within the energy framework. He recognized the role of private enterprises, proposing a comprehensive strategy that aligns state-led nuclear initiatives with ongoing private sector participation to tackle the current energy challenges.
