Dhaka:National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ASM Amanullah has called on educational institutions and teachers to extend greater care and support to students who did not pass this year's HSC and equivalent examinations, rather than expressing disappointment over the results.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Amanullah believes that the pass rate will improve to a satisfactory level in the coming years through the dedication of teachers and institutional commitment. He stated that the current decline in the pass rate should not be seen as a 'disaster in results,' but rather as a temporary consequence of implementing discipline and accountability in the evaluation system to maintain educational quality.

Dr. Amanullah highlighted the importance of evaluating institutional capacities instead of blaming students and noted that the results had made students recognize the need to focus more on their studies. He welcomed the Education Ministry's decision to hold fresh examinations within a month and to re-evaluate the answer scripts of 422,905 students who failed in one or two subjects. This initiative aims to help students avoid losing an academic year and could potentially increase the pass rate by at least 10 percent.

He also urged college principals, teachers, and guardians to collaborate in identifying students' weaknesses, boosting their confidence, and providing additional classes, including on holidays, if necessary. Dr. Amanullah expressed confidence that ongoing education reforms and enhanced accountability would eventually lead to improved examination results and overall educational quality.
