Chittagong: National University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr. ASM Amanullah has highlighted the severe shortage of teaching staff across both public and private colleges in the country. To address this pressing issue, he has proposed the attachment of teachers and demonstrators to government colleges and the inclusion of non-MPO teachers from private colleges under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme as a matter of urgency.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof. Amanullah made these remarks on Saturday at the “Students’ Skill Development Conference 2025,” organized by the NU Skill Development Forum in Chittagong. He emphasized that the scarcity of teaching staff is significantly hindering the overall education system in these institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor also outlined the initiatives undertaken by the National University to enhance the quality of education. These include revising outdated syllabi and developing new ones to meet contemporary demands. Additionally, courses on ICT software skills, hard skills, and English language have been made mandatory.
Prof. Amanullah further elaborated on steps aimed at improving the academic and physical development of colleges, which include teacher training, college vigilance, and audits. Various initiatives are also being implemented to increase student attendance and encourage them to return to classes.
