Dhaka: National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah has highlighted the critical importance of achieving globally accepted quality standards in research within the realm of higher education. He expressed concerns that the current quality of research conducted in the country’s higher education institutions does not meet international standards.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. Amanullah addressed these issues during an orientation program for the ‘MPhil Leading to PhD’ batch of 2024-25 under the university’s affiliated Institute for Liberation War and Bangladesh Studies (ILBS). He stressed the need for research to be impactful and align with global benchmarks, urging new researchers to contribute meaningfully to their respective fields rather than focusing solely on obtaining academic credentials.
Dr. Amanullah emphasized the necessity of ensuring quality at every stage of the research process. In an effort to bridge the quality gap, the National University has launched the ‘MPhil Leading to PhD program’, involving senior faculty members and highly reputed scholars as part of a quality enhancement initiative. He assured attendees that all necessary academic support would be provided to assist fellows in their research endeavors.
The program also featured addresses from NU Pro-VC Md. Lutfar Rahman, Professor Sardar Aminul Islam, Professor Md. Ferdous Hossain, Professor Shah Kawsar Mustafa Abululai, and Professor Dr. Shah Ehsan Habib, who participated virtually from Sydney, Australia. The event was chaired by Acting Director of ILBS Professor Dr. Md. Awlad Hossain and attended by twelve fellows from the fourth batch of the ‘MPhil Leading to PhD program’, along with faculty members and senior university officials.
