Dhaka:National University (NU) has announced a new initiative to establish a 'Career and Wellbeing Centre' (CWC) aimed at ensuring the physical and mental well-being of its nearly 40 lakh students, while enhancing their skills and creating employment opportunities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to facilitate the establishment of the centre between the National University and Bioted at the university's city office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The Acting Director of the NU Public Relations Office, Taiyeba Tasnim Siraj, confirmed this development in a press release.
The CWC will leverage the university's infrastructure and extensive network of affiliated colleges to provide a range of services, including thalassemia screening, genetic bio-counselling, mental health services, and market-oriented training. Confidentiality will be strictly maintained for all healthcare services, and students with complex medical conditions will be advised to seek specialist consultations.
Students will receive skill-development training in digital services, business and finance, English and business communication, and healthcare services alongside their regular studies. The centre will assist students in preparing professional CVs, developing interview skills, securing internships, and establishing connections with potential employers.
The centre will also enable students to gain practical experience by participating in institutional projects before completing their academic courses. Special support will be provided to female graduates to facilitate their employment and ensure safe working environments.
The MoU was signed by Vice-Chancellor of National University Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah on behalf of the university, and Bioted Executive Director Dr. Mohammad Shaugatul Islam. The ceremony was attended by NU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md Nazmul Hossain, Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, Director of the International Affairs Office Raj Bin Kasem, and Managing Director of GenX Health Dr. Munia Amin, among others.
