Dhaka: On the occasion of the upcoming World Indigenous Peoples Day on August 9, NTV will air a special drama titled 'Joya' on Friday night. The drama has been written and directed by Shuvashis Sinha and portrays the journey of a young Manipuri woman named Joya, who was raised in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the drama unfolds a surprising revelation made by Joya's mother on her deathbed about Joya's identity. Feeling a connection with her roots, Joya embarks on a journey to a Manipuri village in search of her heritage. There, she meets the storyteller Kanaai, and gradually a melancholic and deeply emotional life story begins to unfold.
The lead role of Joya is played by Jyoti Sinha, while Gaurahari Chatterjee takes on the role of Kanaai. The cast also includes Nirmal Kumar Sinha, Anjana Sinha, Sajal Kanti Singh, Swarnali Sharma, Chayon, Samarjit, Shashwati, along with members of the Manipuri Theatre and the Manipuri community.
The cinematography of 'Joya' was managed by Abid Mallik, with Uttam Kumar Singh serving as the producer. Sajal Kanti Singh is the art director, Sharmila Sinha composed the music, and the editing was handled by Foysal Nipoon. Assistant direction is credited to John William, and the production company is Tahara.
