Dhaka: State Minister for Land Barrister Kayser Kamal today emphasized that the democracy the people had lost has been restored and now is the time to establish the rule of law to ensure justice. He made these remarks at a discussion organized by the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum, focusing on the expectations of the legal fraternity from the current government regarding democracy, the rule of law, human rights protection, and good governance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion was held before a prayer and Iftar mahfil. Kayser Kamal, who also serves as the Secretary General of the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum and Legal Affairs Secretary of BNP, stated, “Hundreds of thousands of lawyers across Bangladesh had taken a pledge that we would not return home until the fascist regime resigned and a democratic Bangladesh was established. Through long struggles and movements, they have been able to fulfill that promise.”
The State Minister further remarked, “The democracy we had lost has been restored. Now comes the turn to establish the rule of law, meaning the establishment of justice. In that regard, I call upon the entire legal fraternity of Bangladesh to unite and build a humane Bangladesh under the leadership of Tarique Rahman in the reconstruction of the new Bangladesh; a Bangladesh where there will be the rule of law, human rights will be upheld, and constitutional rights will be firmly established.”
The program was presided over by MP Zainul Abedin, who is the President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum, Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council, and a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court. Other notable participants included Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal, Joint Secretary General of the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum and Chairman of the Bar Council’s Executive Committee, Gazi Towhidul Islam, General Secretary of the Supreme Court Unit of the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan, Central Committee’s Publicity Secretary, along with other lawyers from the forum.
