Chattogram: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that holding a fair election is not solely dependent on law enforcement agencies but on the people, as they hold real power, and no one can obstruct polls when the populace is election-oriented.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser emphasized the deployment of all state forces, including the army, navy, and air forces, for the upcoming national polls. He noted that a consensus among political parties would be beneficial. This statement came during a briefing with journalists after a meeting at the local circuit house conference room. The meeting aimed to exchange views with the Deputy Commissioners of Chattogram Division, senior law enforcement officials, and various government organizations.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted that officials provided important suggestions on issues related to the upcoming national polls, scheduled for February. He assured that these issues would be discussed at higher government levels to find solutions. He also mentioned that preparations by law enforcement forces for the elections are progressing well, with training underway and an increase in personnel. Currently, approximately 30,000 soldiers are deployed nationwide, with more expected during the elections.

The Adviser directed all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to provide accurate information to the media to prevent rumor spread. He acknowledged the police’s success in recovering weapons but noted challenges in the Chattogram region due to geographical difficulties, with plans to intensify efforts to recover illegal arms ahead of the election.
