Dhaka: The non-food point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh eased marginally in October, reaching 9.34 percent, a slight decrease from the 9.5 percent recorded in September. This data was revealed by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), indicating a subtle relief in the non-food sector amidst rising overall inflationary pressures.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, despite the slight decrease in non-food inflation, the general point-to-point inflation rate saw an increase, reaching 10.87 percent in October. This rise was primarily driven by a significant surge in food inflation, which climbed to 12.66 percent from 10.40 percent in September. The increase in food inflation overshadowed the minor relief observed in the non-food sector.

The inflation dynamics were reflected across both urban and rural areas, where the general point-to-point inflation also increased last month. In rural regions, inflation rose to 11.26 percent in October, compared to 10.15 percent in September. Urban areas expe
rienced a similar trend, with inflation reaching 10.44 percent, up from 9.83 percent in the previous month.

Additionally, the wage rate index exhibited an upward trend, rising to 8.07 percent in October from 8.01 percent in September, suggesting an adjustment in wages in response to the inflationary environment.
