Rangpur: On the first day of the scrutiny process for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, the nomination papers of Barrister Manjum Ali, the Jatiya Party's candidate for the Rangpur-1 constituency, were declared invalid. This decision was announced by Rangpur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Enamul Ahsan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the scrutiny took place in the conference room of the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner. While Barrister Manjum Ali's nomination was cancelled, the candidacies of the remaining eight candidates for the Rangpur-1 (Gangachara and part of Rangpur City) constituency were validated. The valid candidates include representatives from various parties such as BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Gano Adhikar Parishad, BSD (Marxist), Jatiya Nagorik Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, and Islamic Front Bangladesh.
The examination of nomination papers for Rangpur-2 (Badarganj-Taraganj) constituency also took place, where all five candidates were deemed eligible. These candidates represent BNP, Jatiya Party, Jamaat, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD).
Barrister Manjum Ali, whose nomination was rejected, explained to reporters that a minor error in his nomination form led to the disqualification. He expressed his intention to appeal the decision. The Returning Officer, Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, stated that the rejection was due to issues concerning citizenship, but confirmed that Manjum Ali could appeal to the Election Commission to restore his candidacy.
The ongoing scrutiny process will continue with Rangpur-3 (Sadar-City Corporation) and Rangpur-4 (Kawnia-Pirgachha) constituencies on Friday, followed by Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) and Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituencies on Saturday.
