Dhaka: Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology, announced that a no objection certificate (NoC) from the government is required for installing Starlink connections as the service officially launched today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Taiyeb made these comments during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy. He outlined that acquiring a Starlink connection will necessitate a setup box, an antenna, and a router. Today marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh as it embarks on a new generation of internet services.
Taiyeb further explained that Starlink has introduced two subscription packages for Bangladeshi users: the Starlink Residential package priced at Taka 6,000 per month and the Residential Lite package at Taka 4,200 per month. Additionally, the installation of each connection will incur a setup cost of Taka 47,000.
He highlighted that to ensure compliance with tax and VAT regulations, Starlink is required to pay the Bangladesh government US$ 1 per connection monthly. "As we will collect VAT and tax from every connected device, they have to take no objection certificate against each device.we think there will be no scope to dodge tax and VAT," Taiyeb stated.
Moreover, Starlink has also contributed a yearly fee of US$ 30,000 to the government. The press briefing was attended by Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
