Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today emphasized that no undemocratic agitation would be permitted on the streets to safeguard the interest of democracy. He made these remarks during a discussion organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) to commemorate the historic ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ at the Diploma Engineers Institution in the city’s Kakrail area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin Ahmed urged the government to implement necessary measures to ensure a fair and impartial election. He stated, “If the Chief Adviser calls us to discuss any issue, we are interested in discussions and will go.” He highlighted BNP’s commitment to maintaining contact with all political parties, saying, “We are in touch with all political parties. As part of democratic culture, we will maintain political contact, discussions, and relations with everyone.”
Addressing the ‘lockdown’ programme announced by Awami League in Bangladesh on November 13, Salahuddin Ahmed noted that a verdict announcement against Sheikh Hasina is expected at the International Crimes Tribunal on that day. He questioned the Awami League’s expectation of public response to their call for a nationwide lockdown. “How did you think that people of Bangladesh would respond to your call? If you have the courage, come. We will see how the people of Bangladesh will welcome you. We want you to come and face justice,” he added.
The meeting was presided over by JCD President Md. Rakibul Islam Rakib and conducted by its General Secretary Nasir Uddin.
