Dhaka: Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon on Sunday emphasized that there is no room for corrupt officials in his ministry. He stressed the importance of ensuring the proper use of public funds and completing development projects within the designated timeframe while maintaining quality standards. The minister warned that any proven negligence in duty would result in punishment for those responsible.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Sumon made these remarks during a views-exchange meeting with officials from various departments and agencies under the ministry. The meeting took place at the conference room of the Public Works Department in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha. He assured officials that any political pressure encountered during their duties would be addressed at the policy level, urging them to perform their responsibilities within the framework of existing laws.
Minister Sumon urged officials to clearly articulate the legal position on any illegal matters and to learn to say ‘no’ when necessary. He encouraged them to work fearlessly and honestly. He also highlighted the need for constructive thinking and effective initiatives to improve housing facilities for middle- and low-income people in Dhaka, aiming to enhance their quality of life.
State Minister Ahmed Sohel Manjur and Secretary Md Nazrul Islam were also present at the meeting. The state minister reiterated the necessity for officials to conduct their duties without fear, emphasizing the importance of working responsibly to build a future Bangladesh. He stated that there is no room for misusing taxpayers’ money, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and nepotism.
