Brahmanbaria: Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today announced that no new gas connections will be provided to residential areas through pipelines. “There will be no more pipeline gas connections to residential areas. People must accustom to use gas cylinders,” the adviser stated to reporters after inspecting a portion of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at the Sarail-Bishwa Road intersection in the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser explained that the country’s own gas production has significantly declined, forcing a reliance on imported gas at a cost of TK 60-65 per litre. Given these circumstances, he asserted that it is no longer feasible to supply gas to homes via pipelines and emphasized that pipeline gas connections will be reserved solely for industrial consumption.
Accompanying the adviser during this inspection were Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Didarul Alam, Superintendent of Police Ehteshamul Haque, and other senior officials.
