Nawabganj: Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain today declared that all earthen roads in the four upazilas of the Dinajpur-6 constituency will be upgraded as part of ongoing national development efforts.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made this announcement while addressing a view-exchange meeting held at the Kushdah Union Parishad ground in Nawabganj Upazila. Minister Zahid emphasized the need for a gradual implementation of development projects, including the paving of all dirt roads within the constituency.
Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Zahid highlighted directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, emphasizing the importance of integrating those who supported the BNP in the last elections into the BNP membership. He instructed BNP leaders and activists in each union to promptly begin the process of recruiting new party members. By doing so, Prime Minister Rahman aims to recognize the electorate's support, which was instrumental in forming the current government.
Minister Zahid urged grassroots BNP leaders and activists to ensure a thorough verification and selection process for new members. As the BNP government marks seven months in power, he assured the public that visible development projects will be rolled out across various sectors in the Dinajpur-6 upazilas, including infrastructure for roads, educational institutions, and religious sites.
Reflecting on election promises, he reiterated the government's commitment to fulfilling them step-by-step, stating, "We came to you seeking votes during the last national elections. The promises we made to you at that time will be implemented in phases, Insha Allah."
Minister Zahid also stressed the importance of education in combating social issues such as drug abuse. He called on families to prioritize their children's education and to remain vigilant against the dangers of drug addiction, advocating for collective community efforts to eradicate drugs from society.
The meeting was attended by prominent BNP figures, including Nawabganj Upazila BNP President Md Tariqul Islam, District BNP Vice-President Md Atiqur Rahman Raja, General Secretary Md Iqbal Hossain, and Upazila BNP Advisory Council member Md Manjurul Islam Fateh, along with local leaders Md Habibur Rahman and Md Ashraful Kabir.
