Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon all to remain vigilant so that no division should be created over elections. The BNP Secretary General made these remarks at the unveiling ceremony of three books written by Shama Obaid about BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair this evening.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the importance of responsible behavior as the nation approaches elections. He stated that through an election acceptable to all, the country can build a democratic state, a system, and a society. He stressed the necessity for unity in achieving this goal, warning that any division on this issue would harm the country and its people.
Highlighting the importance of free thought, the BNP Secretary General insisted that every individual and party should be able to think freely, even if they disagree with others. He noted the current situation where attacks on freedom of expression through social media are prevalent, urging the new generation to adopt a positive mindset.
Mirza Fakhrul criticized the Awami League’s rule over the past one and a half decades, claiming it has stifled free expression. He credited a mass uprising of students and the populace for overcoming this suppression. He further emphasized the need for state reforms, referencing Begum Khaleda Zia’s ‘Vision 2030’ introduced in 2016 and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31 points in 2022 aimed at transforming the state structure.
The BNP Secretary General concluded by acknowledging the indelible history of Ziaur Rahman’s leadership and extraordinary wisdom. He also recognized Khaleda Zia’s leadership against autocratic rule and Tarique Rahman’s uncompromising stance in leading the people. The event was attended by BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Abdus Salam and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid.
