Dhaka: The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced on Saturday that no connections have been established between the explosive device found beneath Motijheel Metro Rail Station last week and the bomb-like objects reported at Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro rail stations earlier that day.
According to United News of Bangladesh, CTTC Chief and Additional Police Commissioner of the DMP, Mohammad Shamsul Haque, briefed reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road. He stated that ongoing investigations have revealed no links among the incidents. "We have not found any relationship or connection between the explosive recovered at Motijheel and the bomb-like objects found at Mirpur-10 and Farmgate. Investigation and other necessary activities are continuing," Haque confirmed.
When asked about the contents of the bags found at the Mirpur-10 Metro Rail Station and Farmgate, Haque clarified that the bag at Mirpur-10 contained betel leaf, areca nut, zarda, and other ordinary items, while the sack at Farmgate was filled with discarded waste. "No explosives were found at either location. Therefore, the two incidents are being treated as isolated incidents," he added.
Haque refrained from commenting on the possible involvement of criminal groups or militants in these incidents, stating that conclusions can only be drawn once the investigations are complete. He assured that the police, CTTC, and the Detective Branch (DB) are jointly probing the Motijheel explosive recovery and any new findings will be communicated to the media.
Addressing concerns about the lack of CCTV footage or cameras being out of service at certain locations, Haque said that all related issues, including CCTV footage, are part of the investigation and will be clarified upon its completion.
In light of the recent bomb scares across the capital, Haque urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the police are taking all necessary precautions when suspicious objects are reported. He also appealed to the public to avoid spreading rumors or unnecessary panic.
In his earlier statement, Haque highlighted that the CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit swiftly responded to the reports at Mirpur-10 and Farmgate. After conducting examinations with modern equipment, the unit confirmed that neither object contained explosives. He reiterated the importance of public vigilance, urging citizens to report any suspicious objects to authorities while maintaining a safe distance.
Haque concluded by seeking public cooperation in providing necessary information to ensure collective safety.
