NLASO Extends Legal Aid to Over 1.88 Million Through Call Centre

Dhaka: The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has successfully extended legal assistance to 18,85,28 individuals through its toll-free call centre from 2009 until May of this year.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the information about NLASO’s outreach was disclosed on the organization’s official website. Initially aimed at supporting poor and insolvent individuals at the district level, the services have expanded to utilize a toll-free call centre (16430), and include outreach in all prisons as well as Workers Legal Assistant Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.



Dr Md Rezaul Karim, Public Relations Officer of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, informed BSS that the toll-free call centre was launched in 2016. Since then, a total of 1,88,328 people have received legal services via the call centre up to May this year. Prior to the call centre’s introduction, only 17,328 individuals had been assisted, noted Dr Rezaul.



The NLASO continues to provide legal aid to the country’s underprivileged and insolvent justice seekers under the supervision of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
